程守宗（John Chen) 治下的黑莓（Blackberry) 能起死回生吗？

程守宗（John Chen) 从2013年入主黑莓（Blackberry)，砍掉手机硬件生产和不动产以减负，使公司有了生存的空间，转行主业安全软件，以并购(Good Technology, AtHoc, WatchDox)和挖掘公司现有资产（QNX, CertiCom)创收。总体观之，中规中矩，鉴于公司以前所处危险状况，没有财务空间行险，他的谨慎不犯错误的方针是使黑莓能得以存活下来的唯一也是必行之路。公司的董事会也认可他的业绩，与他续约5年。

摆脱了生存危机，下一步是求发展。公司所处行业，强敌林立，靠并购，以黑莓现有的财力和现在的市场溢价，想买成独角兽不易。黑莓通过专利侵权诉讼来寻求联盟和创收，面子难看，实效从Qualcomm,Cisco 和Avaya的交易看，不错。程守宗也在寻求核算的并购，但他很谨慎，因为即便没有并购，手上的现金也会让黑莓未来可能的被并购时卖上一个好价钱，这应该是黑莓决策层的最坏打算（Plan B)。

所以我认为黑莓已经起死回生，现在的考验是如何快速发展。感觉黑莓的自主研发实力一般，Radar推出一年多，市场反响平平，Jarvis也难成高速发展的发动机。并购似乎是唯一的高速增长+延揽人才的办法。公司所处Waterloo 是加拿大的硅谷，程守宗人在硅谷，我想贾以时日，他会再给我们惊喜的。

The World Made New: Why The Age of Exploration Happened & How It Changed the World by Marc Aronson & John W.Glenn

It is a great picture book written by two scholars, one of them even holds a Ph.D degree. And I would admit this is a first picture book I read that is written by a Ph.D. And it shows the depth without sacrificing artistic and entertaining values.
The book answered the questions raised in the title, by using maps annotated with time and events of many explorers and conquestados exploration of the New World, including Columbus, Cortes, Pizarro and Cartier. And authors threw in abundunt pictures of historical artifacts that greatly increased the draw of story telling.
Best suited for 4th grades and up audience.
Highly recommended.
